What does the Lord require of you, but to do justice, love mercy and to walk humbly with God. -Micah 6:8
The world is hurting all around and I am hurting, too. Doing the work of justice, mercy, and humility starts within and expands outward. The work to be done an infinite, ever expanding calling as pain continues to spread in the world.
This can seem so overwhelming , but it also means the harvest is plentiful. All around us are opportunities to do justice, love mercy, and walk humbly with God.
We must learn and continue to learn to do this work, first and foremost in our own soul. Hurt continues to come, some self-inflicted and some from the world. Our work never ends, but we must continue on the journey.
There is much to be done in the world, even while many seemingly unaware of the ongoing systemic struggle between good and evil. It is present in individuals, communities, and across the globe.
One person cannot do everything, but each must do something, finding their place in their current setting to do their part.
We are each only a drop in the ocean, but a drop nonetheless. A million drops makes a lake, but the lake does not exist without any drops.
We are both inconsequential and consequential, our calling not to be God, but to walk humbly with God, one drop in a boundless ocean.
If our drop abides within the divine flow, the current of justice and mercy, we can move mountains. It is not the faith or prayers of the one which moves mountains, but the collective effort of many drops growing into a tsunami of justice and mercy.
May we each have the humility to find our strength in the divine flow so we might embody justice and love mercy, doing our small part in the great work to bring about the divine dream of Shalom breaking into this hurting world.
