O, my scattered brain
My wandering thoughts,
Roaming the countryside of reality
Seeking a place to rest.
As they scurry along,
At times wandering into
Places of darkness and danger,
Places of peril and despair.
Whether a dark woods
Filled with taunting voices of unworthiness
Or a pit where darkness surrounds and
The world seems but a distant dot,
They can come out of nowhere.
But the other moments, other wanderings
Land in places of sunshine
Joy
Celebration.
Mountaintops where a light breeze blows,
All of the world before me,
Adventurelands primed for
Exploration and excitement.
An ocean shore where sunbeams dance
Across gentle waves,
Bouncing like skipping stones.
Is the sun just rising,
Inviting me to a new day,
Another opportunity?
Or is it setting,
Bringing forth a time of Sabbath and reflection
On all the goodness life offers?
These are the journeys of a mind
Seeking a place to rest,
A place of peace.
May I never forget
I never travel alone;
The divine accompanies me along the way,
Standing in the deepest woods and darkest pits,
But also dancing with me on the highest mountaintops
At the most glorious sunrises and sunsets.
While my mind might be scattered,
The divine is not.
God is the ever present, ever steady voice
Whispering in my ear,
You are loved.
You are worthy.
She holds my hand
When the darkness encompasses me.
She grins with joy
When the light glows bright.
No matter where I might wander off to,
He is with me,
My faithful companion.
